SCE Operations in PVE

Project managed by Southern California Edison (SCE)

The City has been notified by Southern California Edison (SCE) that, over the next several weeks, SCE will be performing CPUC-mandated system-hardening work in Palos Verdes Estates to improve fire safety, strengthen grid resiliency, and enhance service reliability.

Key Details

  • Timeline: Work will occur over multiple dates and locations.
  • Upcoming Dates:
    • Tuesday, October 7, 2025 — Wire Pull (Via Jose and Via Anita)

  • Activity: Helicopter operations to set new utility poles.
  • Closures: Temporary road and sidewalk closures in active zones.
  • Impacts: Increased crews and equipment; SCE will use traffic control signs and crew members with flags to ensure safety.
  • Traffic Note: Road closures will be intermittent, typically lasting 2–5 minutes.
  • Emergency Access: Police and Fire have been notified; full access will be granted in an emergency.
⚠️ Helicopter Operations

Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations require certain precautions to ensure public safety during helicopter operations. Residences within the active flight zone must be completely vacated while the helicopter sets the new utility pole. At no time will SCE helicopters fly over a residence with a load attached.

ℹ️ Evacuation Zone Clarification: If your property is in the required evacuation zone, SCE would have already contacted you directly. If you have not received communication, your property is not in the evacuation zone for this operation.
