Know Your Zone

The cities of Palos Verdes Estates, Rancho Palos Verdes, Rolling Hills, Rolling Hills Estates, and the Los Angeles County Office of Emergency Services have come together to launch PVPready.gov, a centralized evacuation readiness platform powered by Zonehaven. This tool helps residents, businesses, schools, and visitors identify their designated evacuation zones in advance of emergencies like wildfires, landslides, or floods. The evacuation zones will help fire, police and other emergency service agencies prepare for emergencies, streamline the evacuation process, and reduce confusion by enabling a single verified source of emergency information.

Residents, visitors, businesses, and school communities on the Peninsula should go to PVPready.gov to find their evacuation zones. To find your zone, visit PVPready.gov, click “Find Your Zone,” enter an address in the search bar in the upper left corner of the zone map, and a pop-up window will open with the corresponding zone and emergency information. During an emergency, such as a wildfire or flood, the website and corresponding alerts will show which zones are under evacuation the moment an order is issued by authorities.

Beyond incident response, PVPready.gov also provides valuable resources to help individuals and families prepare year-round. The site includes guides for creating emergency plans, building go-kits, and staying informed through services like Alert SouthBay, an opt-in notification system that delivers timely alerts to subscribers. While the platform represents a major advancement in community preparedness, residents are encouraged to take personal steps to ensure they’re ready: know your zone, stay informed, and have a plan.

Alert SouthBay

Alert SouthBay is an emergency notification system used by the City of Palos Verdes Estates and the greater South Bay area to keep residents, businesses, and visitors informed before, during, and after emergencies. Whether it’s a wildfire, earthquake, severe weather, police activity, or evacuation order, Alert SouthBay delivers timely and accurate alerts directly to your phone, email, or other preferred devices. By subscribing, you’ll receive critical updates tailored to your location, ensuring that you know what’s happening and what actions to take to stay safe.

Alert SouthBay allows cities to issue geographically targeted alerts to affected zones, so you’re only getting information that’s relevant to you. During an active emergency, alerts may include evacuation notices, shelter-in-place orders, road closures, safety instructions, and recovery information. With Alert SouthBay, first responders can reach you faster and more efficiently, no matter where you are in the region.

Public Safety in the Organizational Work Plan

Under the current Organizational Work Plan, public safety remains a top priority. The City will continue its full support for the Palos Verdes Estates Police Department and coordinate with LA County Fire and California Water Service to improve hazard mitigation and emergency readiness. Additional plans include updating disaster preparedness protocols, exploring the renovation of the public safety building, and assessing wildfire mitigation strategies such as the potential deployment of a helopod. Property Crime Prevention

The most common crimes that occur in the City of Palos Verdes Estates are Property Crimes. They are mostly crimes of opportunity which capitalize on the carelessness and neglect of the homeowner, renter, or property owner. These tips are provided by the Palos Verdes Estates Police Department to help you prevent home burglaries, vandalism, and other property crimes by controlling access, providing visibility, and maintaining your property. Neighborhood Watch

Neighborhood Watch is a crime prevention program that enlists the active participation of residents, and cooperates with the Police Department to reduce the incidence and fear of crime in the community. It also entails neighbors being educated in crime reporting and suspect identification techniques with the goal of helping communities work towards a safe environment.
