Video Release March 23, 2020
Fellow PVE residents,
Hello, this is your mayor, David McGowan. I want to express our concerns for the health of all our residents and staff. This is an extraordinary time, and I ask that everyone heed the Los Angeles County Public Health’s Safer at Home order regarding social distancing and closing of non-essential businesses through April 19, 2020, to control the spread of the Covid-19 virus.
As all local cities have done, we have closed the lobby of City Hall and the lobby of the Police Department. However, as the Coronavirus pandemic evolves, I want to assure you that the City is continuing to provide public safety and fire services, as well as maintaining public infrastructure. We are fortunate in that our remote environment provides seamless and secure access for our employees. To the best of their ability, staff is also conducting routine business remotely by email, video, and teleconference. Please do not hesitate to contact the appropriate staff for your needs.
The police department continues to patrol the city and respond to calls for service. It has implemented specific procedures and protocols aimed at protecting residents, employees and the public from spreading the virus, while striving to continue providing a high level of service. The department has shared public communication regarding the active “Safer at Home” public health order, with an approach aimed at voluntary compliance over enforcement. Additionally, members of the department continue to collaborate with local, State, and Federal public safety and health professionals.
We have also requested that the Golf, Beach, and Tennis Clubs and the Stables cease operations. This includes to both members and non-members. Please do not use these facilities to golf or participate in any groups activities that violate the social distancing requirement.
I ask that you sign up for Alert South Bay, or AlertSB. This system enables us to provide you with critical information quickly. This includes the current Coronavirus pandemic as well as severe weather, unexpected road closures, missing persons and evacuations of buildings or neighborhoods. A sign-up link is active on the City’s webpage, pvestates.org. You can also text ALERTSB to 888-777 to opt-in.
We want you to protect yourself and the community as a whole. Please follow the guidelines of health officials for everyday personal prevention:
- Supporting social distancing (> 6 feet separation).
- Stay home when you are sick.
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol, once available.
- Cover your coughs and sneezes with a tissue, and then dispose of the tissue and clean your hands immediately. If you do not have a tissue, use your sleeve or bent elbow (not your hands).
- Limit close contact with people who are sick.
- Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using regular household cleaning sprays or wipes.
We will continue to monitor the situation and provide further guidance regarding COVID-19. I again request that all residents remain calm, practice “Safer at Home” and adapt accordingly. I hope this information is helpful. Please let us know if there are additional ways that the City can help during this critical time.
David A. McGowan, Mayor
