The Palos Verdes Estates Internship Program is an unpaid academic driven program that provides a unique opportunity for participants to gain valuable professional experience and build leadership skills through practical application. This program provides a hands-on opportunity for future leaders who aspire to work in public service to strengthen their understanding of the City of Palos Verdes Estates and prepare them for their future.

The Intern Highlight Series will feature our interns who work behind-the-scenes with staff and have opportunities to interact with the public as a representative of the City.

How has your understanding of local government changed?

I was not aware of how involved local government is within its community. Local government is responsible for planning and building, public works, code enforcement, streets and parks, and public events, among other public services.

What were you most surprised about interning at a government office?

I was most surprised by the way local government is structured. It is very similar to how a corporation is structured. For example, the Board of Directors are elected by the company’s shareholders just like the City Council members are elected by the City’s residents.

If you see Jose at City Hall, please say hello!
