Closures of PVDW for SCE Underground System Upgrades from September to October 2017

Southern CA Edison will be making improvements to their underground structures in Palos Verdes Estates, which will include temporary closures of Palos Verdes Drive West. The project will take place from September to October 2017 and work will take place primarily between Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Beginning September 5th

Closure of northbound and southbound traffic on Palos Verdes Drive West from Via Almar to Paseo Del Mar to occur between 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays.

Beginning September 12th

24-hour closure of southbound Palos Verdes Drive West from Via Almar to Paseo Del Mar to commence. The 24-hour closure will be in place for approximately two weeks.  Northbound Palos Verdes Drive West from Via Almar to Paseo Del Mar will continue to only be closed to thru traffic from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays.

More information, a map, and detour information can be found here. Traffic impacts and delays are expected, and drivers are asked to plan their travels accordingly.

Frequently Asked Questions and Answers:

  • How/who will assist disabled residents that live next to work zone and being able to reach their car if cannot get out of driveway or past closure?
    If a driveway is affected during construction, the civil construction crew that is on site will assist the resident(s). Driveway access will not be affected when the civil construction crew is not on site.

  • How will mail get delivered?
    The civil construction crew that is on site will assist delivery services in gaining access within the construction zone. If a delivery is being made outside of the construction zone, detours around the construction zone will be in place.

  • Who will enforce keeping traffic from driving onto Via Almar west of Via Arroyo and sending motorists down to Paseo Del Mar?
    Detour signs will be placed along the detour route to direct motorists.

  • Concern of vehicles coming out the apartment complexes from Corta Lane (n/o PVDW at Via Corta) due to heavy traffic on Via Corta.
    Residents are expected to abide by all traffic laws and proceed with caution.

  • How will residents get to/from Lunada Bay?
    Detours will be in place to direct traffic around the construction zone.

  • How long will my power be out?  “Two months is a long time.”
    The first outage will be on 9/12/17 from 9:00am to 7:00pm and the second outage will be on 9/21/17 from 9:00am to 7:00pm.

  • What neighborhoods are affected by power outages?  “Am I affected?”
    The affected residents will be notified.  Notification is sent from the SCE outage center by mail to only the affected residents.
