SCE Pole Replacement in Upper Malaga Cove

Helicopter Required to Complete a Section of this Work Wednesday, July 25 and Thursday, July 26, 2018

Post Date:07/20/2018 3:40 PM

SCE has contracted with Herman Weissker to replace utility poles as part of an SCE circuit upgrade project to provide additional capacity to areas of the City.  The poles run in the parklands easement behind Via Segunda, Via Pinale, Via Del Monte, Via Somonte and Paseo Del Sol.  New wooden poles, approximately five feet taller, will replace existing poles.

Due to the steep, rugged terrain, Herman Weissker must utilize an airlift operation to perform the work.  A helicopter will transport the new poles, place them in pre-drilled holes and then remove the old poles.  Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rules preclude the helicopter from carrying poles over occupied structures; thus, the contractor must utilize the parklands field next to 915 Via Panorama to lay out 14 poles so the helicopter may lift and carry them into position.

The poles will be staged on the field Monday, July 23 or Tuesday, July 24; the airlift operation will take place on Wednesday, July 25 and Thursday, July 26.

Intermittent traffic stops may be required on Via Del Monte and other local streets.  Watch for flaggers. Parking restrictions are in place in the following locations:  2300 block of Via Pinale, 2400 block of Via Ramon, 700 block of Via Somonte, and 900 block of Via Panorama.
