PVE-CARES Selected as 2018 Recipient of the Van Dine Family Americanism Award

City Council Recognizes CARES Volunteers

Post Date:07/11/2018 12:45 PM

This past July 4th the City’s PVE-CARES program was recognized at the 57th Old Fashioned 4th of July celebration hosted by the non-profit group PVE Independence Day Committee.

As part of the formal program, the Committee recognizes the Herbert Albright Essay Contest Winners, the Bryan and Denise Hardwick Memorial Award recipient, the Van Dine Family Americanism Award, a Military Service Award, and the Kenneth T. Norris, Jr. Heritage of Freedom Award winners.

This year our PVE-CARES program won the Van Dine Family Americanism Award which has been sponsored by Robert and Mary Beth Van Dine since 1990. This award recognizes those that make a positive contribution to their community. It is the first time a program, and not a person, has received this award.

The PVE-CARES program was started in 2004 to address the needs of our residents 65 and over and dependent adults. Created to provide education, available resources and socialization for Palos Verdes Estates’ senior residents so that they may avoid becoming victims of elder abuse and live independently, in their own homes, for as long as possible by supporting them with Care, Assistance, Resources, Education, and Socials (CARES).

PVE-CARES was selected to be the 2018 recipient of the Van Dine Family Americanism Award due to the many contributions the PVE-CARES Program and Volunteers have made to the quality of life for the senior residents of PVE and the PVE community.

It is the partnership between the Police Department, its volunteers, and the community that has made PVE-CARES a success.

Thank you, and again, congratulations to PVE-CARES for receiving this award.

Mayor Betty Lin Peterson
